There are a few things we could do better when a national emergency happens and we have to transition to online schooling. With the internet learning and creativity are endless and the only limit is the people using it.
The first thing professors could do is use various platforms other than the school-based platforms given to them and the students. Since online schooling is new to most of us so should the online environment. Yes, it would take more work but get us as the students intrigued to try something new especially if it resembles social media. Anything interactive and connects us to something more than a grade would help ease the tension of online learning.
The second thing we could do is go project-based instead of strict guidelines gives us an assignment that correlates with the class and is very broad once we take on whatever the task is we create something out of nothing to help us become more creative, open-minded, and test our critical thinking. Once we are out of school those are the most important tools we are going to need if we plan on changing the world and utilizing our higher education.
Lastly, we can make communications easier by being in a class GroupMe or email chain so that students who work, take care of people, etc can be up to date and active within the class remotely. Other than that everything else can stay the same.
