Government AI App Prototype
This AI app was a prototype built as a part of a series where I built 5 Government AI App prototypes in 10 days. You can see all the apps at the link here.
Background
When I first transitioned out of the military, it was very confusing navigating the Veteran Affairs (VA) resources. I didn’t really know what was available to me or how to access it. If I had questions I would call the VA and be on hold for long periods of time. The Smart Vet App is an AI virtual agent that will be accessible on Smart Display Devices and mobile that will give the veteran easy access to this information in a Natural Language format.
Technical Approach
This prototype was built a Google’s NLP/NLU narrow-AI product called Dialogflow. Dialogflow is a GUI based SAAS application that is free to use. I used the Multi-modal functions to build this prototype. I used a Google Smart Display to test the prototype. I trained the AI on public information from from the Veteran’s Affairs website.
VA Hospital Information
There are over 1200 VA Healthcare Facilities in the United States. These facilities have many different departments and services. If a veteran is confused on how to navigate the hospital’s resources it would be considered a negative customer experience and also tie up resources of the administrative staff assisting the vet. By using this application to help veterans self-serve, the veteran’s customer experience will improve and it will decrease expenses for the at the VA.
Veteran Services
The VA offers many services to vets. The Smart Vet App will help vets learn what’s available to them and how to sign up for it.
Disability Claim Development Support
VA Disability Claims can be very complicated to put together for vets. It’s important to make this information as accessible as possible. This feature provide vets with immediate to help them finish their claim.
