We are delighted to announce that Project M from IPMD has been selected to participate in the Department of Veterans Affairs AI Tech Sprint Mental Cohort 2021! We are honored to be given this opportunity to work with the VA and help our nation’s veterans throughout the sprint.
During the course of the VA Tech Sprint Mental Cohort, the National Artificial Intelligence Institute (NAII) will be closely working with the Project M team and other participants who were selected, in order to help veterans and eventually everyone in need with mental illnesses.
In the U.S., approximately 11–30 out of every 100 servicemen and women, depending on the service era, have post-traumatic stress disorder or PTSD.1 It is believed that up to 30 percent of active duty and reserve military personnel deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan have some mental health condition, which totals to approximately 730,000 men and women. PTSD and severe depression are common among many of those veterans.2 Furthermore, according to the 2020 National Veteran Suicide Prevention Annual Report from 2005 to 2018, there was a 6.3% increase in the number of suicides in the veteran population; on average, nearly 18 veterans take their own life every day.3
Mental health problems are treatable and manageable with access to the right tools and medical devices for veterans and others in need of early interventions.
Project M team is very excited to work with the VA and is ready to partner with any potential collaborators from the selected VA Tech Sprint participants in order to help veterans who served the country and risked their lives to save others.
