I decided to read this book by Max Tegmark during holidays. I loved the book and the topics discussed in it. It is written by one of the most brilliant minds I know and the topic of the book is so interesting to read about.
One of my favourite quotes of the book is the following:
Hard things are worth attempting when success will greatly benefit the future of humanity.
— John F. Kennedy
Here is a summary of what you can expect from the book:
How is A.I going to impact our future? How is it going to change our lives? What are the possible scenarios of life with the existence of A.G.I (Artificial General Intelligence)?
These are some of the interesting topics discussed in the book. They help the reader to see the future with a new perspective.
One of the main topics of the book (And my favourite one) is about conciseness. What do we mean by conciseness and should A.I be conciseness and have feelings? Should it be just a robot obeying the commands?
The main purpose of the book (in my view) is to let the reader consider more about the future of life with A.I and inform the reader that the pace of innovations in the field of A.I is extremely fast. If we don’t think carefully about how A.I should act and what capabilities it should possess, we may find ourselves in a situation when it’s too late to change the outcome.
The future life with A.I may lead to the distinction of humankind. But it may propose a new era in science, numerous astonishing innovations and brilliant and beautiful life for all beings on earth.
I recommend everyone to read this book and to look at the future differently.
There is a podcast of Lex Fridman with Max Tegmark about the book which you can find here.
