A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.️
Universities are becoming insanely expensive. Fortunately, there are free options, including at the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence.
While you don’t need a degree to build and deploy AI, given no-code AI tools like Obviously.AI, this is a great opportunity that may lead to a technical role.
By now, the alarm bells might be ringing. Free PhD in AI? No way! I had the same concern, so I checked the official university website, and sure enough, it’s legit:
“All admitted students on full-time basis are granted upon acceptance the privilege to complete their study with a full scholarship including 100% tuition fees, accommodation, health insurance and other benefits.”
This is honestly a mind-blowing opportunity, so I knew I had to share it with as many people as possible.
The university is located in Dubai, UAE — The richest city and the richest country in the Middle East. Dubai is, quite literally, “set to become the centre of the world by 2100,” due to globally shifting populations.
As “the new electricity,” AI is set to become an incredible $30 trillion industry by 2030, useful for everything from growth hacking to human resources to Shopify stores.
As a student at the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, you’ll be at the forefront of technology in an incredibly wealthy, burgeoning city.
You’ll have no shortage of potential selections, and the university features six options to choose from (each of these has an MSc and a PhD option):
- Computer Vision
- Machine Learning
- Natural Language Processing
Let’s briefly discuss the differences.
Computer Vision is a machine learning speciality, focused on identifying what’s in pictures or videos, which is used for tasks like facial recognition, self-driving cars, security cameras, and more.
Machine learning is a broader topic, generally covering methods to find patterns in data, which includes supervised and unsupervised learning, including audio data, tabular vision, image data, and more.
Natural Language Processing is another machine learning specialty, focused on processing and understanding text, a famous use-case of which was demonstrated with OpenAI’s GPT-3, which learned from the entire Internet to generate text, like poems, music, or blog articles, translate language, summarize texts, and more.
There are two deadlines to keep in mind: The early admission deadline and the regular admission deadline.
For the Fall 2021–2011 academic semester, the early admission deadline is January 15th, 2021, while the regular admission deadline is April 15th, 2021.
Typically, early admission only helps slightly in your odds of admission, but the real advantage is getting the admission decision earlier. Further, if you apply sooner rather than later, it’ll be a weight off your shoulders.
That being said, if there’s a way for you to improve your application, it’d be better to focus on that than to apply early.
If you’ve been shopping around for continued education opportunities, you may be concerned if this university is accredited.
Fortunately, the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence is fully accredited by the UAE’s Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA).
In fact, this university is the world’s first graduate-level, accredited, research-based AI university!
Traditional universities are wildly expensive. MIT’s estimated cost of attendance for the 2019–2020 academic year is a whopping $73,160.
If applying for this opportunity is even a remote possibility for you, then it’s a no-brainer. The opportunity to get a world-class graduate degree in AI for free may never come again.
