Parts of San Diego County are windy weekends, with gusts of up to 60 or even 70 mph expected in the deserts and mountains, the National Weather Service said Saturday.
A wind advisor was issued from noon Saturday until 6 pm Monday for the desert and mountain areas, and general westerly winds of 25 to 35 mph are expected.
Strongest winds were expected Sunday and evening, reducing visibility in sand blowing in the deserts. The weather service has warned drivers to be extra careful, especially when operating a high profile vehicle.
There were extensive sea clouds early Saturday morning over the coastal and valley areas of San Diego County. Satellite images and coastal observations showed occasional weakness.
High temperatures along the coast were forecast to be between 66 and 67 degrees on Saturday with overnight downloads of around 56. Peak valleys were expected to be between 75 and 80, with 48 to 55 falling overnight.
Peaks in the mountains were expected to range from 72 to 81 with overnight lows of 42 to 49, and peaks in the deserts were expected to be between 97 and 102 and 60 to 68 low overnight.
The NWS issued a beach hazard statement Saturday through Sunday afternoon in coastal areas, with rough surfing and strong ripping currents creating dangerous swimming conditions. Swimmers were encouraged to stay out of the water to avoid dangerous conditions.
Sundays were predicted to be colder between 5 and 10 degrees. A strong Sunday on the south coast should bring winds of 10-15 mph to 20 mph in the coastal areas in the morning, shifting westward with the sea breeze.
Tuesdays and Wednesdays were expected to be cool and windy, like Sundays and Mondays.
