San Diego County could receive significant rain, high-elevation snow and powerful winds next week as the first major storm of the fall moves through the region, according to the National Weather Service.
Forecasters say their computer models indicate the system will approach the North Pacific on Wednesday and late Friday.
“It’s too early to know what’s going to happen, but this could be part of a system that affects all of California and maybe other parts of the western United States,” said Liz Schenk, a weather service forecaster.
Parts of inland San Diego County have received decent amounts of rain in recent weeks. But the region has recorded below-average rainfall over the past two years, and the potential for wildland fires remains high.
San Diego International Airport has recorded 0.09 inches of rain since Oct. 1, which is 0.30 inches below normal.
