SAN DIEGO – Mysterious lights off the coast of San Diego have prompted locals to wonder what they saw on social media on Monday night.
“It’s still happening, it’s taking about an hour. More floating lights over the ocean. Very calm, very bright. Orange, reddish light. Samples 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6, ”said Twitter user @gabegunlock.
The commander of the San Diego Police Department Guard told FOX 5 that rescuers believed the missiles were used for a military exercise.
“#ufo #ufosighting or am I the only one who’s crazy?” commented on another Twitter user @arya_michelle.
Bright rays of light could be seen from Tijuana and southern Mexico to Santee and La Jolla, some FOX 5 followers reported on Twitter.

Satellites are sometimes visible in the first few minutes after sunset and before sunrise when the sun is below the horizon, but the satellites are high enough to reflect direct sunlight.
Do satellites fall back to Earth?
Even when the satellites are thousands of miles away, Earth’s gravity still pulls them. Gravity – combined with the launch of a satellite from a space launch – causes the satellite to go into orbit above the Earth instead of falling back to the ground.
How long does it take a satellite to fall back to Earth? “Under 500 km, the influence of the atmosphere, a spacecraft can re-enter in 25 years. At 800 km above the Earth, it will take about 100-150 years to fall back to Earth. “
Do satellites stay in orbit forever?
Satellites at the very low end of this area usually stay on for only a few weeks to a few months. They run into that friction and will basically melt, McDowell says. But at altitudes of 600 km – where the International Space Station orbits – satellites can stay up for decades.
Do satellites stay in one place?
Just as geosynchronous satellites have a sweet point above the equator that allows them to stay in one place on Earth, satellites in polar orbit have a sweet point that allows them to stay in one time.
Can satellites stay in orbit for hundreds of years?
On the other hand, the GOES-East NOAA satellite orbits 22,000 miles above the Earth. It only has to travel about 6700 miles per hour to overcome gravity and stay in orbit. Satellites can stay in orbit for hundreds of years, so we don’t have to worry about them falling to Earth.
Do satellites eventually fall back to Earth?
Satellites always fall towards the Earth, but they never reach it – so they stay in orbit. They are supposed to stay there and there is usually no plan to bring them back to Earth. From orbit, they send us images of the Earth and signals to help us find our way.
Can a satellite fall back to Earth?
It only has to travel about 6700 miles per hour to overcome gravity and stay in orbit. Satellites can stay in orbit for hundreds of years, so we don’t have to worry about them falling to Earth. Ugh!
What happens when satellites fall back to Earth?
If the satellite were 1000 km (621 miles) above the Earth’s atmosphere, it could take more than 100 years before it finally fell to the ground. So all these satellites that would fall to Earth would be a long, time-consuming process. Fortunately for us, when they finally fall to Earth, our atmosphere will burn them a lot.
What is the bright light in the night sky?
Planets. Probably Jupiter or Venus (or only occasionally Mars). The planets appear to move across the sky as the Earth rotates, maintaining their position relative to the surrounding stars.

What is the bright object in the sky every night?
Venus can often be seen within hours of sunset or before sunrise as the brightest object in the sky (except the moon). He looks like a very bright star. Venus is the brightest planet in the Solar System.
What is the bright white star in the sky?
Sirius, also known as the canine star or Sirius A, is the brightest star in the Earth’s night sky. The name in Greek means “glowing” – an apt description, as only a few planets, a full moon, and the International Space Station overshadow this star. Because Sirius is so bright, it was well known to the ancients.
Where is Sirius in the sky right now?
Sirius now rises in the southeast in the hours after midnight and can be found in the south at dawn. Note that the line from the Orion belt points to Sirius. Look bigger. | The brightest star Sirius on the left, with the constellation Orion.
Why is Venus so bright tonight?
Clouds in the atmosphere of Venus contain droplets of sulfuric acid, as well as acid crystals suspended in a mixture of gases. Light is easily reflected from the smooth surfaces of these spheres and crystals. The sunlight reflected from these clouds is a big part of the reason Venus is so bright.
