Before starting reading this remember that there is a quote that “Nothing is Impossible”
I am myself, Hari Shankar doing my Master’s Studies in Artificial Intelligence. I taught of why I can’t help other student to do like me and I wanna remove the fear that AI (Artificial Intelligence), ML (Machine Learning) is not for every student. You don’t need to be Programming ghost or Mathematician to do it.
Let me give you an example to find easy pathway to know whether your you are the perfect candidate for AI studies.
If your able to seperate the green apples and red apples from big lot, and if you know how to teach a kid to do it.
Congratulations, you can do Machine Learning. The only thing you should learn additional is how to teach a computer to do that instead of a kid.
The Studies for AI and ML nothing like complicated rocket science. It’s just gathering of knowledge together which you already have learnt from schools and learning in universities. But before that, I want to mention that there is a huge difference between the type of knowledge you have already because it affects more on your future learning curve on AI or Machine Learning. I want to mention there are few must known knowledge are there which is compulsory regardless of where you come from:
- Basic Mathematics
- Programming
- Problem solving skills
I am not telling that you should finish PhD on those but If you know basics on it, congratulations you already have finished 25% of AI learning and ML learning and you can concentrate on start practising it practically with very small amount of tutorials of ‘what is an algorithm?’ and ‘How to create it?’.
On other hand, if you’re not familiar either of this knowledge or coming from an unrelated area like ‘Business Management or Marketing’ you should spend little extra brain then others but it’s no big deal. And even if you studied all before you can refresh again your brain by following the mantra.
And here is the mantra for it:
- Learn the basics Maths
- Learn Basics of Programming
- Learn what is AI algorithm and Machine learning
- Start practicing it
For Mathematics learn basics of Matrices, Calculus and multivariate calculus (don’t panic) it’s easier then you’re thinking. Finally, Probability and it’s more than enough and you can jump into programming.
For Programming Python is more than enough to do ML and AI. Just take a couple of course from online get a book from Amazon and spend time on it, just the basics of programming is enough then you can learn more on you’re leaning algorithms.
For basics of ML and AI for doing this best way to get the knowledge is by leaning a book and do some small one-day online course from the internet
For Practicing now and if you succeed in before tasks, now is the first step your step into real ML and AI. In this phase, there is a need to learn more books about types of algorithms, how it works and where you can use it. Please pay attention that everything you’re leaning now should be practised in programming on that day itself so that you get the full experience.
So at last you will be in the phase of learning and after the decision is in your hand because standing here and there is Ocean of Fields available in AI and ML, like Computer Vision, Neural Networks, Deel Leaning, Natural Language Processing and etc.
You can choose either fields and focus your mind on one fields.
